ODSA Updates
Earlier in the year, the ODSA completed its second Base Funding application. This enables ODSA to operate over the next 2 years with stable, predictable, ongoing funding.
We have now received our funding for 2010 and also know what we can expect to receive in 2011!
In addition, ODSA submitted
an SPF grant application to help underwrite the costs to host a series of OFSAA sanctioned events in across four regions in Ontario during 2010. Unfortunately, while the feedback was very positive on the submission, the economic challenges within the Province is taking its toll across many sports. As such, the application was unsuccessful this time out. We will be scheduling a meeting with our Sport Consultant to set a strategy for the 2011 grants opportunities. We will also be gathering input from member clubs in order to ensure that our applications fully support the growth of our sports, moving forward. |

Receiving disKRAZE
Due to the AGM announcement, all members who have registered through the ODSA website will receive this issue of the 2010 disKRAZE e-newsletter. To Opt-Out follow the same procedure as editing your profile and look for the "email preference" section. We hope you don't do that!! Our hope is that members will stay connected and want to receive disKRAZE in the future. You'll look forward to receiving it! We got exciting programs and great stuff to report on within the Ultimate & Disc Golf scenes. |

Once again we'd like to thank you for registering on behalf of 'Primary Group'. Today, ODSA's website has almost 3,600 registrants and continues to offer an option to get and stay connected to the disc sports community within Ontario. On an ongoing basis, we are constantly introducing new functionality and interaction opportunities through the sites' social networking capability to meet the ever-changing needs of its users. |
Annual General Meeting
The AGM for ODSA has been slated for Saturday November 6th, 2010. The corporation and it's meetings will operate under 'Robert's Rules of Order'. Adoption of these operating standards, along with other business items and initiatives, will be voted on at this year's AGM, which will take place in Toronto at the Toronto Don Valley Hotel & Suites (formerly Crowne Plaza Don Valley Hotel), Valley Room, located at 1250 Eglinton Ave. East. The program will start with lunch @ 1pm, followed by the AGM at 2pm. All members are welcome! If you plan on attending, please register here!
Board Nominations
As part of the AGM on November 6th, the ODSA will seek to elect new members for Executive and Board positions. The search is on to identify candidates! Once again, this is where YOU come in! The Board is made up of 6 Independent Directors. The Executive consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Most Board meetings take place on conference calls with a frequency of six per year. Executive meetings also average six per year.
The AGM provides an annual opportunity to nominate and elect new Board Members who demonstrate an enthusiasm to become involved in the running of our sports on a Provincial level. ODSA's future depends on broadening its' ability to fully represent both Ultimate and Disc Golf across the Province. Leadership positions within ODSA provide a unique opportunity to not only help steer the development of our sports into the future, but provide individuals with a real opportunity for personal growth and involvement. So don't miss the chance to stand for nomination today! This year, we are seeking nominations for Vice-President, Secretary and 3 Independent Directors. Nominations must be signed and faxed back by the nominee by October 30th, 2010.

Ontario Ultimate Championships (OUC) Committee
Strong and vibrant provincial championship tournaments will spur further growth in the sport of ultimate across Ontario and raise the general level of play. Accordingly, we are looking for 5 volunteers from across the province to determine the parameters under which the provincial championships will be held. The committee will consider factors such as timing, eligibility, divisions, location & level of play. The committee will use teleconferencing and email in order to submit a draft report to the ODSA Board of Directors by the end of October. Representation is sought from each of the following groups: small clubs; large clubs; northern Ontario; women; the touring community. If you are interested in helping out, send an email with your name and a brief background statement, including the constituencies you would represent, to president@ondisc.org. |

2010 ODSA OTF Grant Applications
Through funding provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), ODSA applied for a Simplified Capital Agreement Grant acting as the lead applicant on behalf of the St. Thomas Disc Sports Club. This application was successful and will see a newly redesigned course emerge in VA Barrie Park in St. Thomas. New equipment will be purchased that meets the PDGA technical requirements for courses used in tournament play. The old baskets will move to a new installation in London, giving London it's second course.This funding was provided through an application that closed at the end of March. Funding has now been received. ODSA has made a second application for a new course installation in Toronto, based on the June application deadline. Next deadline for new grant applications is November 1st, 2010. What are the needs of your community??? Are there field or course improvements or developments required?? Resource Centre
Have you visited ODSA's online Resource Centre??? It's your gateway to links and overviews to help elevate your game, stimulate member growth for your club and elevate play in your region. Existing and potential Club Leaders now have easy access to a wide range of great information on Risk Management, Corporate Governance, plus a number of other online resource booklets provided by the Centre for Sport and Law. Visit Club Resources for a complete tool box. We've posted a generic set of Bylaws and Constitution to help clubs that may want to incorporate and become non-profit entities. You'll also find a variety of Disc Golf and Ultimate brochures in various sizes that can be downloaded and distributed. Customizable posters are available online and provide you with a time and money-saving ability to promote your league, event or tournament. A number of different template versions will give you a choice of formats and images. Let us know if there's something else out there that we could produce to help get your message out! |
NCCP Program Update
CUPA, which has officially changed its name to Ultimate Canada (UC) was accepted by the Coaching Association of Canada in the fall of 2009 to develop a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). ODSA has been working with UC in developing a national coaching program. There will be two types of coaching certifications available moving forward, Competitive and Community Coaches. Work on both of these programs is underway. The Community Coach document has been completed and a pilot certification will be launched in the FALL to formalize the process. This will most likely take place in Ottawa. Work on the Competitive side has continued and an individual has been hired by UC under contract to deliver a compete program. This will definitely be a key achievement to ensure our sport continues to thrive, while taking a major step forward to increase its profile within the Canadian sport system. Ontario Mixed Ultimate Championships (OMUC)
Through Ultimate Canada's bidding process, the ODSA, along with the Hamilton Ultimate Club, played host to the 2010 OMUC in Burlington at Brant Hills Park. 9 teams competed over the course of July 10th and 11th at this fantastic site. Up for grabs were the 6 spots available to mixed teams from Ontario in order to qualify to compete at the 2010 Canadian Ultimate Championships in Sherbrooke, QC August 12th to 15th, 2010. Partnering with Tourism Burlington, ODSA received $1000 in sponsorship to host the event in Burlington. The competition was outstanding, combined with fantastic fields and awesome weather. ODSA Website
When you registered, a member record was created within the ODSA platform and within your Primary Group. Depending on your settings, various types information is available to the general public to see or search within your record. YOU have control of what can be seen by others. If you wish to change the current settings, follow these simple steps:log into the site using your username and password:check "My Public Profile" and then "Edit My Profile" to make changes. We want to remind you that your username is 'Username' and your password is @@PASSWORD@@ Surf the site! We are confident you will be impressed with both content and user options! Post pictures, create blogs, participate in forums, respond to our quizzes and surveys, connect with your friends or teammates and even upload your own documents and files to share with others. There possibilities are endless!
Since launching the site in March 2009, ODSA's on-line store has generated $84,000 in sales to the end of August, primarily from the educational community. On the registration front, we provided registration services for 4 clubs and processed $60,000 in transactions. Want to simplify your own club's registration process??? contact us for further info! New "MY PROFILE" Menu Delivers Enhanced Nav
The "My Profile" menu is reorganized and restructured to provide streamlined navigation and simplified management of member profile details. Now, members can access a consolidated, graphic listing of their specific options, features and settings by clicking "Manage Profile" from their "My Profile" menus. As always, menu items will be displayed based on the member's access level. In addition, the "My Profile" tab within a member's "Profile Home" is now called, "My Bio."
