Dear  Friends ,
Peace & Love
As we creep towards the Holiday Season, I announce to you all that I will be stepping down as of December 21st as President of  Ontario Disc Sports Association. First and foremost I have been President since 2005 and this literally is my 3rd year. Our by-laws do not permit me in continuing in this capacity, beyond May 2008. With that said, I will be throwing my hat into the ring to pursue applying for the Executive Director position recently announced. Through the fortitude and insight of a number of individuals, this organization would not have come to fruition and I'd like to thank them. I personally have spent most of the past 3 years building a strong base from which to grow the organization into the future. It is with great joy and personal fulfillment that I leave this post at this point in time. Mike Sullivan, Vice-President will assume the role as President until the position is filled at our next AGM in May of 2008. I'd like to wish all of you god speed and a joyous holiday season. Best wishes and fly high straight in 08!
30+ Years of Disc Sports in Ontario
Algonquin Hanging BasketdisKRAZE has a special mission!  We are looking to document 30+ years of disc sports in Ontario. We're creating an online magazine to not only save costs but to help reduce our carbon footprint. A printed copy will, however, be available for a fee for anyone who wishes. This issue will concentrate on telling a story..... a story of individuals and areas. How they got started, whether playing Disc Golf or Ultimate or even some other disc sport or derivative of the above. We will pay for articles and pictures in an effort to motivate and take delivery. Our goal is to publish this in the early spring. This endeavor will seek to inform and to entertain as we follow the trail blazed by many in pursuit of a pastime we all love..throwing disc! ODSA receives 2 year grant from OTF
OTFOntario Disc Sports Association would like to announce the receipt of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) in the amount of $189,900. Yes that's right..... $190K! This grant was applied for in July to support capacity building and outreach initiatives and the first of four payments was just received on Friday December 14th. These funds will be used for a number of initiatives over the course of the next 2 years including the hiring of an Executive Director, supporting initiatives aimed to grow membership and creating various policies and risk management documents to help effectively guide ODSA.  We will also work with member associations to assist in developing proper corporate governance policies and terms of reference.

Further, the grant will also support efforts by CUPA to create and formalize an Ultimate Coaching program with the NCCP.  With Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association, efforts will be made to develop rules for both ultimate and disc golf.  We will also work with local disc golf courses in helping to improve their facilities, while implementing a number of new courses throughout the province. ODSA will also hire community outreach coordinators for a number of other projects aimed at bringing disc sports to summer camps and aboriginal communities. These coordinators will also help host various regional and provincial disc sport championships.

"This is a win win for all disc sports clubs and groups in Ontario" says Christopher Lowcock, current President of ODSA, "and this will go a long way in building upon the early successes of the ODSA to help strengthen the disc community and those organizations within Ontario".
ODSA & YouTube
youtubeIn an effort to embrace new technologies, ODSA has begun to seek out various relevant disc content within the YouTube community to rebroadcast through its own website. This is to help in streamlining education, documenting historical significance and to highlight a visual opportunity to seek out and understand various disc sports. Further we will look to aggregate Ontario content from various Ultimate and Disc Golf communities. We hope this will help to better inform, educate and entertain both the current and future disc participants. Look for these new screens throughout our site. Click here to check one out!
WFDF Newsletter
http://wfdf.org/index.php?page=news/newsletter.htmIn an effort to better inform moving forward, the World Flying Disc Federation has started to promote from within by re-launching it's newsletter. WFDF hopes to continue reaching out to the world disc community by continuing to produce newsletters on a monthly basis.
